Today is random. First of all, I am guest posting over at BabEblesssings today. If you want to read the WEIRDEST post I've ever written, please go check it out. Secondly, last week I had the amazing opportunity to hang out with my blogger/REAL friends. Heather drove up from Tucson to hang out with Erin and me. You can read their lovely posts about our visit here and here. The treat of the day is that one of my best friends from college got to join us. My friend, Kristin, got to come visit me for the week of New Year's, which was the best week in the world, and she got to tag along on our little blogger adventure. I am sure she learned at least a few lessons that day: bloggers eat a lot; bloggers take tons of pictures, bloggers talk about blogging all the time, etc. It became a joke throughout the course of the day that Kristin should become one of "us" and start a blog. The pressure grew until it reached the point where I am pretty sure sweet little Erin was threatening Kristin as they said their goodbyes. I think her final words as she walked out the door to go home were "See you on Blogger on Monday, Kristin." Well, here is a new lesson to be learned: bloggers are persuasive, because all our begging and threatening worked. Kristin has started a blog! It's called What Kristin Learned Today! Blogger lunch Bloggers taking pictures outside of the Botanical Gardens because we refused to pay the $18 admittance fee. Bloggers taking their final pictures of the day. Here is a little background on Kristin. She is probably the smartest person I know - at least the smartest, socially normal person I know. Well, actually, she is so smart {like genius level, people!}that she probably beats out most of the socially awkward geniuses too. The bonus is that she is also one of the nicest people on earth in addition to being so intelligent. Our goal is that Kristin will be on Jeopardy someday. I say "our" goal because I am her coach. I want her to beat Ken Jennings' winning-streak record, even though she doesn't want to because he is her hero. Get over it, Kristin. I will train your competitive nature until you want to go Hunger Games on Ken's record. Anyway... Kristin's blog is her little place where she is going to record all the random things she is learning from books, movies, music, pop culture, and LIFE as she prepares for Jeopardy. The intense training starts when she turns 30. She will audition for the show when she hits her mid-thirties. You should probably check out her blog now, because you'll want claim you "know" her in about six years. That's all for now friends. I really have no idea how this post went from announcing a guest post to talking about Jeopardy... xoxo, Jen *Linking to Rolled Up Pretty!* ... Read more
Meet Phoebe!
It's true. Micah and I have become iPhone people. I could say we "finally made the plunge" or something like that, but the truth is that I secretly took no pride in being one of the last people on earth to get a smart phone. I was getting desperate on the inside. People were starting to make fun of me. In fact, one of my college professors mocked my EnV3 in class. I couldn't handle it any longer... Actually, I lost my phone. It was an ordained loss if you ask me... I didn't mean to lose my phone {although I am pretty sure Micah still thinks I did it on purpose}. I think it was God's way of nudging us to get with the program. He was probably laughing at our outdated technology too... So on December 30th, my life was changed forever. I met my phone for the first time. When they handed her to me all shiny and configured, I felt like a mom holding her child for the first time. My heart did a little flutter and I was filled with a happiness I have never known before. I am not exaggerating, people. There is photographic proof of this joyous occasion. Highlights from our first week together: downloading Instagram and taking my first pictures // naming her Phoebe after the woman of the Bible who was a patron to the early church and a great help to Paul {she is already and will continue to be a great help to me} // playing Words with Friends while sitting in my bathroom late at night // talking to Siri, my Norwegian cousin // buying my beautiful new case at Nordstrom // keeping track of my daily Bible reading on YouVersion // knowing that I will never again have to randomly stop in a coffee shop parking lot to pull out my computer to find directions or information I need // realizing all the mentions I had somehow been missing on Twitter via the laptop It's been a good week to say the least. And to top it off, one of my best friends was here to teach me how to use Phoebe. Of course, I am the last of all my friends to get an iPhone, but that means they can provide very helpful tutorials to an #iPhonedunce like me... And now my first ever "week according to my Instagram" post! I am so excited. Did I mention I already went on Instagram and wrote a review of how awesome it is? I am THAT in love... My joy at the cell phone store // NYE Fiesta // Yet another open-mouthed pic dedicated to Stace My friends and I have a tradition of sitting in the bathtub // Heather and Erin got to meet Phoebe {and witness the obsession} // Learning how to be hipsters at Lux Coffee The brutal aftermath of having so many visitors over break and being behind before the semester even begins // The five year PhD plan if the Lord wills it // My reward for three straight hours of productivity So this is where I need your help... what apps should I download? Which ones help you the most? I already have Insta {obvi} and Words with Friends. What else does a girl need? Please tell me your favorite apps below and why you like them or what you use them for? And are there any your husband loves that I should pass onto Micah? Thanks, friends! OH! And you can follow me on Instagram and witness the obsession for yourself... @jenrussum! xoxo, Jen Linking up with Jeannett over at Life Rearranged {finally!!!!} and Aisle to Aloha! ... Read more
Handmade…
Happy New Year friends! Okay, I know Christmas was just here and I was blessed with lots of fun and beautiful gifts from friends and family. I am completely undeserving of them all. But as I look at the year ahead, I still have a wish list of items I would like to purchase in coming months. I'm actually putting together this wish list not to spend more or become even more of a consumer than I already am... but to be more careful with what I spend my money on. Instead of buying a random shirt or picture frame here or there simply because it's a good deal, I want to plan out what I spend my money on. And since becoming a blogger I have grown to love the handmade industry and want to support many of my blogging friends who make an income for their families by selling their crafts and trades on Etsy or through their blogs. So here it is... my spend-money-wisely-and-support-my-blogging-friends-and-their-families wishlist for 2012: This little flag necklace - adorable! Antique bicycle necklace! Yellow Rose Locket A Gadanke journal Sur La Table Microwave Popper {okay, not handmade, but I've been eyeing it for a year} Mustard and lace infinity scarf Vintage Lace Pendant Rosette Necklace Embroidered Necklace Vintage Dishtowels Vintage Apron Tease brush {also not handmade, but I heard it's amazing} I also have a gift list of things I want buy for friends and family, but I can't share it, in case you are one of the future recipients of said gifts! :) xoxo,Jen ...
