I added a Bible verse in a picture frame to Micah's bathroom counter last week. I wrote out this verse in my best penmanship and used some of my scrapbooking supplies to make it look pretty... in the most manly way of course... and I happily set it up by Micah's sink, next to his toothbrush holder {we have separate vanities, praise Jesus!}. And when he came home that night and noticed it, he stared at it with quite the perplexed look. Not a frown exactly, but close to it. Let's just call it a "I know those are God's words, but do I really want to read that every morning and night when I brush my teeth?" look. This is what the frame says... Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered. I Peter 3:7 But before he could get too annoyed about this "hindered prayers" verse, I reminded him of the verse I've kept by my own sink ever since we've been married {Because we all know I've had to cling to these words from time to time when I've wanted to scream and cry and name call. And I'm not saying there hasn't been a slip up here and there, but by God's grace these words have changed me over the past two years}... Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct. I Peter 3:1-2 And I said, "That's hard, babe. Seriously, I have to love and respect you even when you are in sin. That's not always easy, ya know?" And he replied in agreement. He knows it's not always easy to be a godly wife, just like I know {to an extent} that it's not always easy to be the loving, humble, sacrificial head of our family as a husband is called to be. And in that moment, we agreed. These hard words are needed. These hard words from the Lord need to be in our vision daily. Beside our sinks where we can see them as we brush our teeth and wash our faces. Because marriage is a hard thing. You know this. I know this. It's why about half of them fail. Marriage is hard, but it is also good. A lasting marriage is probably the most rewarding relationship on this earth. And in order to travel on the journey of a faithful, loving, lasting marriage, Micah and I are willing to read hard words. We are willing to read and obey the words of the Lord that teach us how to lay down our lives for one another. And our hope and prayer is that these hard words, when lived out, will result in one beautiful story. *Linking up with Casey Leigh* ... Read more
Here to help a sista out…
Okay, so I know there are like a million and one handmade shops out there. Etsy, Storenvy, Big Cartlel. Ruffled clutches, necklaces, headbands, art prints. The list goes on and on. Sometimes there is so much cute stuff out there that I start feeling overwhelmed and don't want to look at any of it. Except that I want some handmade goodness in my life. I want to wear jewelry that wasn't already purchased by everyone and their mother at Target last week. I want to add whimsical touches to my home that aren't from the TJ Maxx clearance aisle {my hot spot, let's be honest}. Today I am here to help you out... I might not know which biz makes the best headbands, but today I am going to point you in the right direction for a couple of really fun items. First up, if you want to add a unique-yet-classy bracelet or two {or three} to your collection, I have the perfect shop for you... This shop just opened up this past Monday, and my girl, Jenna, is already selling out of bracelets left and right. And for good reason. Look at these babies... It's okay. You can be obsessed. I am too. I am going to try to scoop up this one for myself! And Jenna is just about the cutest, sweetest girl you will ever meet! Here's a word from Jenna... My inspiration for my jewelry comes from everything I see. Art, fashion, and sometimes even women I see at the mall. I LOVE bright colors and anything that pops. I want my jewelry to be statement pieces that you'll have forever and ever. There is nothing like a good bracelet or a beautiful necklace to brighten up a ho-hum outfit. Cause let's just face it..a plain white shirt is just lonely without a pop of color from some jewelry! And this week she is offering AZ Russums readers 15% off any order in her shop! Just enter "RUSSUM ROCKS" at checkout! Also, visit Jenna all over the web. You won't regret it! BLOG // TWITTER // NEON & NUDE SHOP * * * * * Next up I have another darling gal... my friend, Anne! I am obsessed with this girl AND her product. If you need a way to organize the bracelets or necklaces you order from Jenna above, Anne can help a girl sort out her jewelry in style. Her shop, Sweet Sadie K, just opened this week as well! Look at these amazingly stylish jewelry racks! I have one and I love it. And it holds ALL my necklaces.... at least 30 of them, maybe more. Mine hangs in my closet right now, but I love that these racks are so cute that you can hang them right out in the open in your room and bathroom, and they work as an art piece. Stylish organization is always a win. Here's a word from Anne: I've always loved repurposing old things... It started with awkward room decorations. One time I entered the room decorating competition in 4H. I think my product included sponge paint...I didn't win. My mom has always been a dumpster-diver and usually brings home old pieces of wood (shutters, headboards, frames, etc). At some point we started collecting random knobs and would gift our little creations to friends. Our hobby grew into a huge stash and after a year of helping my mom's Etsy business, I decided to open my own. Its named after the cutest little baby, Sadie K! Anne is offering 10% off any order in her shop with the discount code "SWEETSADIE" Go shop til you drop ladies! You won't be disappointed. XOXO! ... Read more
New Year’s Eve
Yes, you read the title right. As part of my summer blogging, I will now tell you about all the fun things we did the first half of the year that I, for some reason, never found time to write about when they actually happened. Let’s start with New Years. If people can do “Christmas in July” then we can totally do NYE in June. Work with me, people. I used to dislike New Year’s Eve. I thought it was the most overrated holiday. I think it was because unless you are planning to get smashed {not my style} or attend some glamorous event that requires the wearing of a shiny dress and heels or someone whisks you away to New York City or something… New Year’s Eve is often disappointing. It’s because people act like it’s a bigger deal than it really is. Stay up until midnight. Woot woot. I’m all for New Year’s goals and the awesome college football games that take place after Christmas, especially when my beloved TCU Horned Frogs make it to a top bowl game, but NYE has often disappointed me… Up until the past three years. The past three years have been awesome. New Year’s 2010. Got engaged at the top of the Space Needle at midnight with fireworks flying all around. New Year’s 2011. First New Year’s in Arizona. Decided to throw an impromptu fiesta the night before. Texted invites to friends the day off. Eight people showed up for tacos and games at our tiny apartment, and it was a night of laughter, cake, Sombreros, and singing Pat Benetar. New Year’s 2012. Fiesta numero dos. Since we had so much fun the year before, we decided our NYE party should become an annual thing. It’s not a huge deal. Although we have been known to have 30 people over for a party at our house, New Years is more of an intimate gathering. A handful of guests. Delicious Mexican food. Games. This year involved s’mores around our backyard fire pit and trying to capture designs with our sparklers on camera. New Year’s Eve at its finest. The best part of New Years since getting married and moving to Arizona is that one of my best friends in the whole, wide world, Kristin, has flown in for the week of New Years. She is one of those people who is warm and inviting and comfortable in groups and the kind of person that EVERYONE instantly clicks with. Anyway, Kristin hates hot weather, so she blesses me by visiting Phoenix in our ever so chilly January weather… {aka like 65 degrees} and she is the BEST part of our New Year’s gathering each year! I am pouting because we had FINALLY gotten rid of last year's {illegal} fireworks and our friends brought us more!!! So Happy New Year, y'all! How are those resolutions coming along? :) ... Read more
