Yes, you read the title right. As part
of my summer blogging, I will now tell you about all the fun things we did the
first half of the year that I, for some reason, never found time to write about
when they actually happened. Let’s start with New Years. If people can do
“Christmas in July” then we can totally do NYE in June. Work with me, people.
I used to
dislike New Year’s Eve. I thought it was the most overrated holiday. I think it
was because unless you are planning to get smashed {not my style} or attend
some glamorous event that requires the wearing of a shiny dress and heels or
someone whisks you away to New York City or something… New Year’s Eve is often
disappointing. It’s because people act like it’s a bigger deal than it really
is. Stay up until midnight. Woot woot. I’m all for New Year’s goals and the
awesome college football games that take place after Christmas, especially when
my beloved TCU Horned Frogs make it to a top bowl game, but NYE has often
disappointed me…

Up until the
past three years. The past three years have been awesome.

New Year’s 2010. Got engaged at the top
of the Space Needle at midnight with fireworks flying all around.

New Year’s 2011. First New Year’s in
Arizona. Decided to throw an impromptu fiesta the night before. Texted invites
to friends the day off. Eight people showed up for tacos and games at our tiny
apartment, and it was a night of laughter, cake, Sombreros, and singing Pat
Benetar.

New Year’s 2012. Fiesta numero dos.
Since we had so much fun the year before, we decided our NYE party should
become an annual thing. It’s not a huge deal. Although we have been known to
have 30 people over for a party at our house, New Years is more of an intimate
gathering. A handful of guests. Delicious Mexican food. Games. This year
involved s’mores around our backyard fire pit and trying to capture designs
with our sparklers on camera. New Year’s Eve at its finest.

The best
part of New Years since getting married and moving to Arizona is that one of my
best friends in the whole, wide world, Kristin, has flown in for the week of
New Years. She is one of those people who is warm and inviting and comfortable
in groups and the kind of person that EVERYONE instantly clicks with. Anyway,
Kristin hates hot weather, so she blesses me by visiting Phoenix in our ever so
chilly January weather… {aka like 65 degrees} and she is the BEST part of our
New Year’s gathering each year!
