Well, we’ve had our first official baby shower. It included gifts, games, and the cutest cake ever.
But the similarities to a traditional baby shower stop there. No one watched me open gifts. In fact, I let Micah open them all the next day after everyone was long gone. The games involved grown men eating baby food and drinking from baby bottles, and we almost forgot to eat the cake because everyone was so busy doing flips into the pool.
Kayla, Micah’s sis, threw us a diaper dash baby shower and it was so much fun. Basically, all her friends got together to spoil us with diapers and celebrate Baby Russum. It was their big way of saying thank you for the many parties {such as this one} we’ve hosted for their huge group of friends over the past year and a half. They decided for the last party before we move out of our house, they should celebrate us. We were so honored by their love and generosity!
Kayla’s friends are a lively and fun group, so our baby shower had to match the vibe. It lasted from 2pm until 3:30 in the morning {Don’t worry! Micah and I… the ol’ parents… were asleep by midnight}. The games included racing to eat the grossest baby food and trying to drink root beer out of baby bottles {very challenging, by the way}. Most of the day and evening was spent eating “baby” sized snacks {hello mini quiches!}, doing tricks in the pool, or lounging poolside with a burger or hot dog. Super laid back and fun! Oh, and I should also mention that everyone dressed up in blue or pink, depending on what their guess is for the baby’s gender. It was about a 50/50 split between colors!
Thank you, Kayla {and Charis} for throwing us such a great party. And thank you, friends, for devouring meat and gravy baby food to celebrate our new arrival!
