Can I confess something to you today? I am not addicted to Pinterest. I don’t spend hours on it. I doubt I even pin something once a week. I just already struggle to control the time I spend on the Internet and I feel like I don’t need one more social media addiction to steal my attention, so I keep my relationship with Pinterest to a minimum.
{This is my Pinterest profile picture… in case you were wondering.}
I am not against Pinterest by any means. I think it’s awesome. In fact, I jumped onto the ol’ Pinterest ship fairly early in the game. I don’t remember exactly when I joined it, but I think it was well over a year ago. Long before “Oh How Pinteresting” linky parties and “Pin It” buttons invaded the blogosphere.
I mainly use Pinterest for home décor ideas. When I see pretty kitchens and lovely bathrooms and awesome gallery walls on blogs and other websites, I pin like mad. Most of my boards are dedicated to different rooms of the house, so someday when I have my own home, I can start decorating it ASAP.
But I never just get on Pinterest and browse.
And you know what? I still use bookmarks on my browser {gasp!}. I don’t know why, but I can’t shake the habit. I save recipes, research for grad school, craft ideas, etc. For some reason, I never think to pin these things. I don’t know if I want to pin these things…
And speaking of recipes, do y’all just go on Pinterest and find things to cook? This scares me. I’ve heard of Pinterest recipes that are to die for and others that were a major flop? I like to use recipes that friends recommend or that have five star ratings on cooking sites that I trust. But am I missing out?
Maybe I should convert to full-on Pinterest lover. Seeing pictures of Pinterest boards like these makes me think I should change my ways…
{via}
Am I not using Pinterest to its full potential? How do you use Pinterest? How do you organize your boards? What do you pin? And how do you keep yourself from becoming an addict?
Or maybe I should continue my lukewarm relationship with Pinterest and keep it at a healthy distance. Hmm….
xoxo,
Jen

i think you're doing it right. : ) I really do love pinterest and honestly am thankful for it as i've found so many good ideas, recipes, etc that I use and love. However, it is a time waster for sure and can leave you feeling overwhelmed with things you think you should be doing! So I vote to continue what you're doing!!!

I am not addicted to Pinterest either! I mostly use it for outfit inspiration and home decor ideas. I've pinned a lot of stuff, but most of it was done last summer before it was "all the rage." Plus, I'm a little leery of it with all the talk of copyright law, etc.

I think I'm a borderline addict 😉 When I first got it, I pinned every darn thing I remotely liked and it got out of control. I still have a lot of pins, but I've removed a lot and organized them. I have boards dedicated to specific rooms in our house too, it helps to remember and be inspired when shopping.
I've found a LOT of recipes on Pinterest that turned out really well. It's a nice resource to have, but I still check out AllRecipes.com and love getting personal recommendations from friends and family too!

Don't change a thing dear! I think you are in a good relationship with it. 🙂
I have only searched pinterest for scripture art really. When I do posts I like having those pics in it too. But it can be tricky to track those down.
I just repin a lot of fashion pics too.
As far as recipes, I've done several that turned out well, but they were pinned from big sites such as Kraft or something lol so yeah it's just easy to take pinterest with you if you are out of your home and want to replicate a recipe.

I used to be addicted but now only look on my phone occasionally! I really want to spend some time on there getting house ideas but I am too busy!

I'm currently on a Pinterest fast, so I understand how you're not completely attached to it. My main goal in using it has been craft ideas for crocheting and then attempting desserts (as a college student, that's what's fun to try with friends). I think it's awesome that you don't just browse; as you said, there are already so many things online pulling for our attention- way to take control over them instead of letting them control you!

I think you're definitely in a healthy relationship with Pinterest 🙂 Technology already sucks up too much of our time as it is these days. Funny that you pin decorating ideas…I pin recipes like mad! Almost everything I cook lately is something I found on Pinterest, and everything has been amazing except for one thing. I still get a lot of ideas from my favorite cooking blogs and websites as well. And I still use bookmarks too! Not everything needs to be on Pinterest 🙂

i had a feeling the two links would be to ruthie's blog and meredith's 😉 i'm kind of the same way… i spend about 15 minutes a week on pinterest. but now with the new house i have a feeling it might be more 😉 xo

I follow as many people with good taste as I can for inspiration. 🙂 And I use Pinterest more to collect things I want to save for later than for just browsing and finding things. I've found awesome recipes, but I've also found some awful ones- it definitely helps to make sure whoever posted the recipe has actually made it and that it has a few reviews. I like to save DIY tutorials that I'll use in the future, decorating pics, recipes, and right now wedding inspiration- Pinterest was a great solution for wedding planning for me! I also enjoy seeing outfits and ideas the my friends pin- the social aspect is a big draw for me.

I'm over pinterest. I liked it more before everyone was on it. I have quite a few things pinned, but no burning desire to pin anything new…especially with the copyright mumblings. I'm actually considering deleting my account.
I have found some great recipes, but I've also found a whole bunch that look great in the pic, but the recipe looks wretched.

that picture makes me giggle perfect for a pinterest profile pic… i only use pinterest rarely as I am like you, already have to pull myself away from "too much" time online.

I'm not a pinterest addict either and thought I was the only one! I still bookmark things, too, haha. I just find it easier to find a bookmark than a pin, especially since I keep my bookmarks super organized. I use pinterest more for things I want to keep track of but share with others, too, and I usually only pin things that are already on the site {or pictures from my tumblr account}.
Kristin
I am completely unpinterested. I hope I never go on that website. But I freaking love that you chose that for your profile picture on it.

i'm a last year pinterest user too (we're so hip) and I hardly go on it at all anymore– mainly when i'm SUPER tired or sick and need some brainless browsing
and every so often when I'm looking for something– design inspiration, recipes…
but I'm afraid it could take away my creativity– if that makes sense.
