After a year of shut-downs and canceled plans, we decided to throw Diletta and Eisley a shared outdoor bash for their April birthdays. The invite said “Come have fun in the sun because Diletta is one! Stay for a s’more because Eisley is four!” There wasn’t really a theme, so I just bought some jewel-toned balloons, fun cupcake wrappers, and some glittery candles.
But if I had to give the party a theme at the end of the night, it would be… let the people gather!
The event turned into so much more than a pool party. It went from pool to pizza and back to the pool. It included cupcakes and gifts and s’mores and freeze tag with the dads and the kids. It was sharks + minnows on the lawn and an hour-long dance party after the sun went down. Most importantly, the party was filled with long conversations, stories about God, lots of laughter, and a feeling of collective joy at being together after a year of weirdness and isolation.
